Pure Wool Jumpers
Our company has been providing Australia and New Zealand with fine woollen garments for more than 30 years now. In that time, we’ve mastered the art of using high-grade merino wool to shape our knitwears into classically cool styles. That’s because our years of experience have taught us to respect the materials used to craft a finished garment. We know a thing or two about wool, and that’s why we can tell you that inferior knits and synthetic blends will never stack up to the real thing.
What Makes Wool Better than Synthetics?
Synthetic fibres seem great at first. They’re comfortable, they cost less and they’ve become a staple for many clothing manufacturers. However, natural will always be a cut above the synthetics. Why? Because man’s creation is at its best when working in tandem with mother nature.
You see, raw fleece wouldn’t make a very good jacket. Don’t tell our ancestors that, because that is exactly how they used it! Today, we continue to make use of the amazing natural properties offered by woollen garments, and there’s a reason it has remained a staple in the manufacture of clothing for nearly all of human history.
It’s All in the Fibres
Synthetic fibres are made to imitate the properties of natural fibres, but they can’t hold a candle to what nature has cooked up over thousands of years. Fleece, after all, is what protects an animal from the surrounding environment. That’s why woollen fibres are so extraordinary, and we don’t say that lightly.
Underneath a microscope, woollen fibres appear as a series of coils that loop around one another to form a strand. When properly woven, these fibres are able to expand and contract without stretching out of shape. This also allows for moisture-wicking properties that keep the wearer cool or warm, depending on the weather. Amazingly, these fibres also contain antimicrobials that break down sweat and odours. That’s why pure wool jumpers are able to stay fresh and new for much longer than synthetics.
Synthetic Blends are Not Your Friend
Many companies these days take shortcuts by creating clothing with a blend of synthetic fibres and natural wool. At first glance, it seems as though there’s little difference. However, a blend will never have the same durability or versatility as an all-natural wool garment. That’s because synthetics are an imitation of the original, and the original is always better!
Not only that, synthetic blends tend to lose shape more easily. They have lower melting points than wool, which means their fibres are more easily distorted in a hot wash. They’re also not as breathable as wool and are more prone to causing allergic reactions.
Let’s Get Real About Wool
Wool is an amazingly versatile and useful fabric, but it often gets downplayed because of the number of synthetic fibres and blends available on the market today. We prefer to keep things traditional and, in an increasingly disposable world, that means sticking to what we know will last. Our Australian wool jumpers are made to last.
You may spend less for a synthetic, but it will need to be replaced much sooner than wool. Not only that, it won’t provide nearly the same benefits you’d get from its natural counterpart. That’s why you should stick with natural fibres and blends made from all-natural materials. That’s why you should choose Merino Wool Knitwear.
At Merino Wool Knitwear you'll find Australia's finest pure wool, merino clothing for mens & womeons at the best possible prices.
